Obverse description Central device depicts the crowned arms of Solothurn — a quartered shield bearing the canton's characteristic black-and-white bipartite arms — set within an ornate cartouche and surmounted by a mural crown with floral decoration. The shield is flanked on either side by symmetrical olive or laurel branches that converge beneath it, forming a wreath. The date 1813 appears in the lower field below the wreath. The circular legend CANTON SOLOTH. is disposed along the left and right periphery of the field, reading upward on each side, with a finely reeded border encircling the entire design.
