| Obverse description | Round brass pattern coin featuring a central square hole surrounded by four boldly rendered Chinese characters arranged in the traditional cash coin format. Reading clockwise from the top: 光 (Guang), 通 (Tong), 緒 (Xu), 寶 (Bao), forming the legend 光緒通寶 (Guangxu Tongbao), meaning 'Circulating Currency of the Guangxu Emperor.' The characters are cast in high relief with strong, well-defined strokes against a flat field. The plain outer rim frames the design cleanly, consistent with a Western-style milled production technique adapted to a traditional cash coin format. |
