Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of the Spanish royal arms incorporating the quarterings of Castile, León, Aragon, Sicily, Granada, and Portugal, surmounted by a royal crown. The mint mark and assayer's initial appear to the left of the shield, with the denomination numeral IIII to the right. A partial Latin legend runs along the outer rim of this irregularly shaped hammered flan.
