Obverse description Central field dominated by the crowned arms of Aragon — a vertically paly shield of nine alternating gold and red bars (represented in relief as vertical lines), surmounted by a royal crown with five visible points and pearl ornamentation. The shield is flanked by decorative scrollwork and enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The circumferential legend reads + CAROLVS · III · R · ARA · 1707, disposed in Latin capitals around the periphery, with the date 1707 appearing at the upper left of the legend. The overall style is characteristic of early eighteenth-century Spanish hammered coinage, struck on an irregular flan.
