Obverse description Crowned quartered royal shield of Castile and León, with Granada at base, set within an irregularly shaped hammered flan. The mint mark 'B' (Barcelona) appears to the left of the shield and the assayer's initial to the right. The design is characteristic of cob-style (macuquina) coinage, with the shield rendered in bold relief against an uneven field. A partial circular legend surrounds the central device, legible only in part due to the nature of hammered production.
