Additional information

The "Papegaaitje" — little parrot — coinage was produced under the auspices of the Geoctroyeerde Sociëteit van Suriname, the chartered company that administered the colony from 1683 onward, though this particular piece predates that arrangement and falls under the earlier English-to-Dutch transition period following the 1667 Treaty of Breda. Uniface copper tokens of this type filled a chronic small-change vacuum in the colony; specie rarely survived the Atlantic crossing in useful denominations for plantation-economy transactions.

The four-leaf variety is distinguished from related Scholt listings by its specific reverse field arrangement, making die attribution essential to precise cataloging.
