Obverse description Ornate baroque shield bearing the bipartite coat of arms of Lucerne — argent and azure — is centrally positioned in the field, surmounted by a shell motif and a mascaron below. A crown rests at the apex of the composition, supported on either side by two woodwoses (wild men) wearing leafy wreaths around their heads and waists; the dexter woodwose brandishes an upright sword while the sinister holds a palm frond. Both figures stand upon a decorative podest with foliate scrollwork below, lending the design a distinctly Renaissance-baroque heraldic character.
