Reverse description The elaborate quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg occupy the central field, displaying the heraldic shield with a cross and lions in the quarters, surmounted by an archiepiscopal cross and surrounded by tasselled ecclesiastical hat cords (the galero with pendants) arranged symmetrically on either side of the shield. The whole composition is rendered in high relief within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads + SANCTVS RVDBERTVS EPVS SALZBVRGN, invoking Saint Rupert, the patron saint and founding bishop of Salzburg. The design is struck on the same square klippe planchet as the obverse, with the corners of the planchet projecting beyond the circular design field.
