| Obverse description | Facing busts of the two co-ruling dukes, Johann Christian (right) and Georg Rudolf (left), both shown in armour with elaborate lace ruffs, their heads turned to face one another in a conjoined portrait arrangement. The effigies are rendered in high relief with finely detailed drapery and facial features characteristic of early seventeenth-century German medallic art. A beaded inner border separates the portrait field from the surrounding Latin legend. The circumscription reads D G IOHAN CHRIS ET GEORG RVDO FRATR, identifying the rulers as brothers by the grace of God. |
