Reverse description The reverse presents a bold four-line Latin inscription occupying the central field, reading DVCATVS / REIPVB. / ARGENTI / NENSIS, identifying this as a ducat of the Republic of Argentoratum (Strasbourg). The inscription is framed by a symmetrical wreath of laurel or olive branches tied at the base with a decorative bow or floral ornament. At the top of the wreath, an elegant crown or floral motif surmounts the composition. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border following the coin's circular periphery. The overall style is characteristic of high-baroque German civic coinage of the mid-seventeenth century.
