Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the rampant lion of Zürich stands facing right in the central field, its right forepaw raised and grasping an imperial orb surmounted by a cross, while its left forepaw supports an elaborately decorated heraldic shield bearing the city arms. The lion is rendered with fine mane detail and a curling tail, standing on a lozenge-patterned ground. The surrounding legend reads MO ‡ NO ‡ THVRIC ‡ CIVITA ‡ IMPERIALIS with the date 1624, separated by rosette stops, all enclosed between a beaded circle and a rope-twist outer border.
