The Tom and Jerry licensing agreement with Warner Bros. brought a wave of legal tender novelty issues from Cook Islands in the early 2020s, largely aimed at the collector gift market rather than any serious numismatic audience. Cook Islands has used its monetary agreement with New Zealand to authorize an enormous volume of themed collector coinage, much of it struck by the BH Mayer mint in Germany.
At just over a gram of .9999 gold, the metal value at virtually any spot price has consistently exceeded the face value by a factor of roughly fifteen.
