| Obverse description | The obverse features two facing effigies in profile, set within separate conjoined oval frames against a rhodium-plated field. To the left, a diademed and elaborately coiffed bust of Queen Victoria faces right, rendered in a classical Victorian portrait style. To the right, the contemporary effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a tiara and pearl earring, faces left. Between the two portraits at the top, a royal crown surmounts an interlaced royal cipher, and below the portraits the crowned cypher 'ER' appears centrally flanked by the denomination '4 DOLLARS'.
