Obverse description The fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, is depicted in right-facing profile as a mature, uncrowned bust with naturalistic detail to the hair. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs across the upper field to the left, with AUSTRALIA continuing around the right, both separated by a beaded border encircling the rim. The denomination 4 DOLLARS appears in the lower field beneath the portrait, flanked by raised dots. The engraver's initials IRB are incised discreetly below the truncation of the bust.
