Reverse description Central device displays the crowned royal arms of Navarre — the escutcheon bearing the chained network (the traditional chain device of Navarre) — struck in moderate relief on an irregularly shaped copper flan. A royal crown surmounts the shield at the top of the field. A dotted inner border surrounds the central device, with the partial Latin legend INS A NA and the date (e.g. 1619) distributed around the periphery, often partially off-flan due to the hammered technique. The mintmark 'PA' for Pamplona may appear in the legend field on dated examples. The overall execution is typical of the crude but historically significant coinage of the Kingdom of Navarre under Felipe III.
