Obverse description Typographically composed in dark purple on cream paper within a bold double-rule border, the obverse centres the denomination in large display type equating 1 Dollar U.S.A. to 4,20 Mark Gold and 1 Pfälz. Handelskammerdollar, beneath the heading NOTGELDSCHEIN DER HANDELSKAMMER LUDWIGSHAFEN A. RH. A dense block of German text sets out redemption conditions referencing the Allgemeine Elsässische Bankgesellschaft, Filiale Ludwigshafen a. Rh., and the New York exchange rate, with the issue date of 18 December 1923, a serial prefix letter A, and two manuscript signatures of chamber officials at the foot. A vertical side panel records the note's validity throughout the Regierungsbezirk Pfalz until 31 January 1924.

Reverse description Printed in brown on plain cream paper, the reverse is dominated by a finely executed letterpress vignette of the Kaiserdom zu Speyer (Speyer Cathedral), rendered as a landscape with trees in the foreground and the Romanesque west towers rising against an open sky. The denomination equivalence — 1 DOLLAR U.S.A. = 4,20 MARK GOLD = 1 PFÄLZ. HANDELSKAMMERDOLLAR — is repeated in bold type along both vertical margins, flanking the central architectural vignette. A circular watermark impression is visible at lower left.
