Comments

Neumünster's municipal administration issued notgeld denominated in Goldmark during the hyperinflation peak of 1923 — a deliberate anchoring to gold-equivalent value at a moment when Papiermark figures were becoming meaningless within days of printing. The 4.2 Goldmark denomination is characteristically odd, likely calculated to represent a specific commodity value or wage unit rather than a round monetary amount.

Gerhold & Thon were a local Neumünster printer, not a specialist banknote firm, which accounts for the relatively modest production quality typical of municipal emergency issues from Schleswig-Holstein during this period.
