Italian savings banks were authorized to issue low-denomination emergency notes — locally called miniassegni — during the coin shortage of the mid-1970s, when small change had effectively vanished from circulation due to hoarding and informal substitution by candy, telephone tokens, and postage stamps. The Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto was one of dozens of regional institutions that issued these instruments, which technically functioned as bearer checks rather than banknotes proper.
The 350-lire denomination is among the more unusual face values in the miniassegni series — most institutions defaulted to round figures, making odd-denomination issues from smaller regional banks disproportionately harder to complete in a thematic collection.
