Batea is a small municipality in the Terra Alta comarca of southern Catalonia, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local government issued emergency fractional currency when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. The 35 céntimos denomination is notably odd — not a rounding convenience but a reflection of the specific coins that had disappeared locally, forcing issuers to back-fill gaps rather than rationalize the denomination ladder.
Turró 327 is among the rarer Batea issues. Terra Alta saw intense fighting during the Battle of the Ebro in 1938, and municipal records from this period were largely destroyed.
