Obverse description Draped bust of King José I facing right, wearing an elaborately curled and ornamented wig rendered in the baroque style, with decorative scrollwork visible at the truncation. The mint mark (B or R) appears between the date numerals at the base of the bust. The date is inscribed in the lower field, flanked by the truncation of the effigy. The circular legend reads JOSEPHUS·I·D·G·PORT·ET·ALG·REX, separated by pellets, running along the full periphery of the obverse.
