Obverse description Uncrowned, bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Christian VIII with naturalistically rendered curly hair, in the neoclassical portrait style. The king's truncated bust faces right, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features and hair. The circular legend reads CHRISTIANVS VIII to the left and D:G: DANIÆ V:G: REX to the right. Below the bust, at the base, appear the engravers' initials F.K. flanking a small cross, accompanied by the date 1842 and the initials F.F., all within a beaded border.
