The Norwegian Squadron refers to the Royal Norwegian Navy vessels that escaped German occupation in April 1940 and continued fighting under Allied command for the remainder of the war. Several of these ships operated directly out of Gibraltar, making the colony a genuine operational connection to the squadron rather than a purely commemorative one.
Gibraltar has produced kilo silver issues in this format since the mid-2010s, typically tied to naval themes with a direct Rock connection. KM#1678 sits in a numbered run where the face value of 32 crowns is essentially nominal — no such coin has ever changed hands at face.
