Additional information

Mongolia's platinum coinage from the early 2000s was produced in extremely limited quantities for the international collector market — the domestic economy had no practical use for platinum bullion issues. The Year of the Horse denomination fits within a broader Mongolian lunar series that drew heavily on Chinese zodiac traditions, reflecting the cultural overlap across Inner Asia.

KM# 201 is among the scarcer entries in that series. Platinum strikes at this weight class were minted by foreign facilities on contract, as Mongolia operated no domestic mint capable of refining or striking the metal.
