| Obverse description | Central field depicts a detailed relief view of the Bakong Temple, a ninth-century Hindu temple pyramid and the first temple mountain built in sandstone by the rulers of the Khmer Empire. The temple is shown in frontal elevation with its characteristic tiered prasat towers and monumental stairway. The inscription 'Bakong Temple' appears in the lower central field beneath the architectural motif. The legend 'KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA' arcs along the upper periphery, while '3000 RIELS' is inscribed along the lower periphery, both separated from the central design by a beaded inner border. |

| Additional information |
Cambodia's lunar series issues from this period were produced under contract by foreign mints — the National Bank of Cambodia held nominal issuing authority, but the coins were never intended for domestic circulation and saw no meaningful use within the country. They were struck specifically for the international collector market, a common arrangement among smaller issuing authorities seeking seigniorage revenue from numismatic demand rather than monetary necessity.
