Gabon's participation in the European novelty bullion market is a long-running arrangement in which the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale authorizes issues bearing Gabonese legal tender status but designed, produced, and distributed entirely for collector markets in Europe and North America. This coin has no meaningful circulation history in Gabon and was never intended to. The Krampus figure — a horned Alpine folkloric punisher of misbehaving children, rooted in pre-Christian central European tradition — has become a reliable seller in the themed bullion sector since roughly 2013.
