| Additional information |
Chad has issued a long-running series of tiny gold pieces under the CFA franc framework, most bearing European historical figures with no organic connection to central Africa — a purely commercial product aimed at the collector market rather than circulation. Charlemagne's inclusion follows the same logic that put other Carolingian and medieval subjects on this series: European distributors commission the designs, the Chadian government lends its issuing authority, and the coins are sold at significant premiums through specialist dealers.
At 0.06 g, this is among the smallest gold coins produced anywhere in the world by mass.
