Equatorial Guinea has no indigenous giraffe population and no historical or cultural connection to the animal. Issues like this one are produced almost entirely for the international bullion and collector export market — the CFA franc zone affiliation gives them legal tender status on paper, but none are intended for domestic circulation. The country has leaned heavily on novelty wildlife themes since the 1990s to generate seigniorage revenue from foreign buyers.
