Obverse description Central field depicts a high-relief mythological scene of the Rape of Europa, adapted by engraver C. Cardot after the Renaissance painting by Jean Cousin. Europa, draped in flowing robes, reaches toward a garlanded bull (Jupiter in disguise) accompanied by two winged putti amid crashing waves, with a classical architectural landscape visible in the background. The inner circle is bordered by twelve five-pointed stars arranged in a ring against the outer field, evoking the European Union motif. The engraver's signature 'C. CARDOT Gr. d'après J. COUSIN' and the RMN copyright mark appear in the lower exergue of the central medallion.
