Reverse description The reverse presents a bold, high-relief bust of Britannia facing three-quarters to the left, helmeted with a plumed Roman-style helmet surmounted by a lion, and draped in classical armour with scale detail at the chest. Her flowing hair escapes from beneath the helmet, and she gazes with a commanding expression. The elaborate guilloche background echoes the security printing of the historic 1870 Canadian 25-cent shinplaster fractional note. The denomination 300 DOLLARS appears to the left in period-inspired lettering, the date 2005 to the upper right, and CANADA curves prominently along the lower rim; the engraver's initials RRC are visible at lower left. The design, by José Osio, commemorates the 135th anniversary of Canada's first shinplaster issue.
