Reverse description The reverse, engraved by Stan Witten, presents a naturalistic scene of two Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias) engaged in nest-building behaviour atop a large twig nest. The left heron stands upright with wings partially spread, offering a branch to its mate, while the right heron is depicted in a settled posture amid the nest structure, with leafy branches framing the composition on both sides. The engraving displays exceptional detail in the rendering of feather texture, plumage, and the interlaced twigs of the nest. The legend CANADA arcs across the upper field, and the denomination 300 DOLLARS appears in the lower exergual area. The engraver's initials are visible in the lower right field of the design.
