Additional information

The 2010 Year of the Tiger release was part of Perth Mint's Lunar Series II program, which launched in 2008 and committed the mint to producing coins for each of the twelve zodiac animals through 2019. At 10 kilograms, these pieces required specialized die equipment and extended pressing cycles — the planchet preparation alone involved casting and rolling processes distinct from anything used in standard bullion production. Perth was one of very few mints globally with the infrastructure to strike at this size consistently.

The tiger year held particular commercial weight: 2010 marked the first major lunar cycle since China's bullion import market had substantially liberalized, and Perth's Asian distribution network made these large-format issues especially liquid in Hong Kong and Singapore dealer channels.
