Moll-Werke Aktiengesellschaft was a Chemnitz-based manufacturer — one of hundreds of German industrial firms that began issuing their own emergency notes in 1923 as the Reichsmark collapsed faster than the Reichsbank could supply currency. Notgeld of this kind was not a bank product but a payroll instrument, printed in denominations that were obsolete within days of issue. Richard Müller was a local Chemnitz printer, which was typical of corporate Notgeld: firms contracted whoever was nearby and could deliver quickly.
The 300,000 Mark figure dates this note to the middle inflation phase — by November 1923, comparable instruments were denominated in the billions.
