Obverse description Draped bust of King Ferdinand III of Sicily facing right, with long curled hair falling to the shoulder, rendered in high relief in the Baroque courtly style. The effigy is uncrowned and unlaureate, presented in a naturalistic portrait manner typical of late 18th-century Bourbon coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust reading FERDINANDVS·D·G· SICIL· ET· HIER· REX, denoting his title by the Grace of God King of Sicily and Jerusalem. The date 1785 appears in the lower field beneath the bust. The entire design is enclosed within a finely milled border of radial denticles.
