Obverse description Bare head of Louis XVI facing left, hair tied at the nape with a ribbon, engraved by Pierre-Benjamin Duvivier. The mint date appears in the exergue beneath the truncation. The encircling legend, commencing at approximately the 7 o'clock position, reads LOUIS XVI ROI DES FRANÇAIS with the year. The portrait is rendered in a restrained neoclassical style characteristic of the Constitutional Monarchy period.
