Obverse description A large, boldly rendered fleur-de-lis occupies the central field, its elaborate scrolling petals and stylized base filling nearly the entire coin face. The device is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail characteristic of late 17th-century Alsatian municipal coinage. The circumferential legend reads MONETA . NOVA . ARGENTINENSIS, referencing Strasbourg (Argentoratum) as the issuing city. The border is formed by a continuous milled or grained edge visible at the coin's periphery.
