Obverse description Equestrian effigy of King Charles I advancing to the right, the king depicted armoured and crowned, brandishing an upraised sword in his right hand while seated upon a caparisoned horse whose trappings bear the royal arms. The figure is rendered in bold relief characteristic of early Stuart hammered coinage. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the royal legend disposed around the periphery in Roman capitals.
