Raa-Besenbek is a small municipality in Schleswig-Holstein, and like hundreds of similarly minor German communes it issued emergency Notgeld during the inflationary disruptions of the early 1920s. The Konrad Hanf printing house in Hamburg handled a substantial volume of provincial Notgeld work during this period, supplying small issuers who lacked any local printing capacity whatsoever.
The issuer's extreme obscurity is itself the note's main distinction — Raa-Besenbek had a population of only a few hundred, making its Notgeld output among the smallest by circulation volume of any German municipal issuer.
