| Obverse description | The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring the escutcheon with a key between two rocky promontories and a rising sun, surmounted by the Phrygian cap and flanked by an oak branch and laurel wreath. The curved legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA runs along the upper periphery. The denomination 30 PESOS is inscribed below the arms, with the weight designation 3 OZ and fineness AG 0.999 appearing on the respective sides of the central device. Issued as part of Cuba's extensive 1990s hard-currency collector program, the Guama series was produced explicitly for export sale — foreign exchange, not domestic circulation. The Special Period following the Soviet collapse had gutted the Cuban economy, and CUBACOIN, the state agency managing numismatic exports, leaned heavily on large-format silver pieces like this one to generate dollar and peseta revenue from overseas collectors.
The 93.3g specification places this among the heavier one-ounce-plus issues of the program, consistent with other 30-peso denominations in the series.
