| Obverse description | Armored and draped bust of James VI facing right, depicted in three-quarter profile with a ruffled collar and cuirass visible. The king's bearded effigy is rendered in a bold, slightly crude hammered style characteristic of late 16th-century Scottish coinage. A beaded inner circle borders the central design, with the royal legend arranged around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys a strong likeness consistent with other coinage of the 7th coinage series. |
