S.p.A. was a Milan-based welfare and pension organization, and these notes functioned as internal scrip rather than legal tender — circulating among members or employees as tokens redeemable against the organization's benefit schemes. Italian private scrip of this kind occupied a legal grey zone in the 1950s, tolerated when confined to closed systems but periodically scrutinized by the Banca d'Italia.
Survival rate is low not because of heavy use but because nobody thought to keep them.
