Additional information

Eberhard Louis spent much of his reign financing a court modeled aggressively on Versailles — his palace at Ludwigsburg consumed resources on a scale that repeatedly strained Württemberg's treasury. The 30 Kreuzer denomination issued in his final years coincided with chronic shortfalls; the duchy was effectively mortgaging future revenues to sustain present expenditure.

He died in 1733 without a legitimate heir, ending the Württemberg-Stuttgart line and triggering a succession dispute that brought Carl Alexander to power within months of the last of these pieces being struck.
