Vorderstoder is a small alpine commune in Upper Austria — population measured in hundreds, not thousands — which makes its decision to issue notgeld in 1920 less a monetary policy choice than a practical necessity. The postwar coin shortage was severe enough that even villages with no banking infrastructure were producing their own emergency fractional currency, and Vorderstoder was among the smallest communities in Austria to do so.

The 30 Heller denomination is worth noting: most rural Austrian notgeld clustered around 10, 20, and 50 Heller. Thirty was an awkward denomination that appeared only when issuers were trying to cover specific local pricing needs.
