Ranariedl is a small market commune on the Danube in Upper Austria, and its notgeld issue belongs to the wave of municipal emergency money that proliferated across Austria and Germany between roughly 1919 and 1922, when chronic coin shortages made small change effectively nonexistent in everyday commerce. L. Haase of Linz handled a number of regional notgeld commissions during this period, making this a locally produced piece rather than one farmed out to a Vienna or German specialty printer.

The "b" variant designation in the Jaksc/Pick reference suggests at least one documented printing or paper difference from the primary type — worth confirming against a known "a" example before attributing condition differences to wear alone.
