Grossgstötten is a small village in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similar communes it issued Notgeld during the postwar economic collapse when small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. The Austrian Notgeld wave of 1920 produced thousands of distinct local issues — this is one of the more obscure, from a settlement with no particular economic or political significance.

Johann Bauer's signature as issuing authority places accountability at the municipal level, which was typical for commune-issued Notgeld. Jaksc catalog number 0292ll-30 confirms this is the 30 Heller denomination within what was likely a small series.
