Obverse description Three-quarter right-facing effigy of Philippe le Bon (Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy), depicted in his ceremonial attire as Grand Duke of the West, wearing a characteristic flat ducal cap and fur-trimmed collar with elaborate heraldic embroidery at the truncation. The legend PHILIPPE LE BON arcs across the upper field in Gothic-style lettering, while the birth and death years 1396 and 1467 appear in two lines to the right of the portrait. A small engraver's initial is visible at lower left of the bust.
