| Obverse description | The obverse features a small inset effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in the upper left quadrant, rendered in high relief against a finely patterned field of repeating scallop motifs that covers the entire coin surface. The portrait depicts the Queen in right-facing profile, bare-headed and wearing a necklace, as designed by Susanna Blunt. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs above the effigy and 'D·G·REGINA' arcs below, both within the circular inset frame. Dominating the remainder of the obverse is a large silhouette of a woodland caribou, created as a pierced cutout that allows light to pass through the coin, with the animal shown in left-facing profile. The combination of the textured background and the bold cutout silhouette creates a striking interplay between positive and negative space. |
