The SS Keewatin was a passenger/freight steamer launched in 1907 in Glasgow and operated on the Great Lakes for the Canada Steamship Lines. She holds the distinction of being one of the last surviving Edwardian-era steamships in the world, preserved at her final berth in Port McNicoll, Ontario after decades of service on the Georgian Bay and Lake Superior routes. The Royal Canadian Mint's numismatic program has drawn on Great Lakes maritime heritage repeatedly, and this four-nines fine silver kilo-adjacent piece fits squarely within that collector-focused series rather than any circulating monetary function.
