Australia's 1-kilogram silver Koala series has been issued annually since 2007, with the reverse design changing each year — a deliberate strategy by the Perth Mint to drive collector demand alongside bullion demand. The 2022 issue falls under Jody Clark's sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced to Australian coinage in 2019 and used only briefly before her death in September 2022 made it a transitional type.
Perth's .9999 fineness on this series exceeds the .999 standard common to most sovereign bullion programs — a specification the mint has maintained consistently to differentiate its product in the competitive Asian bullion market.
