Comments

The 1864 Confederate issue came after the Act of February 17, 1864, which forced a compulsory funding of older notes — holders had to convert earlier currency into bonds or accept a punishing exchange rate. This note is a product of that monetary reorganization, not a straightforward emission.

Archer & Daly operated in Richmond under considerable constraint by this point in the war. Engraving supplies were scarce, ink quality had deteriorated, and the firm was working from plates of uneven condition. The $30 denomination is among the less common face values of the series.
