| Obverse description | Central field bears the Cross of Lorraine surmounted by a ducal crown, the cross rendered with a distinctive double-barred form characteristic of Lorraine heraldry. The field is strewn with alerions (eagles displayed without beaks or feet), the traditional heraldic charge of the Duchy of Lorraine. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, separated from the central device by an inner border. The overall design reflects the baroque heraldic style prevalent in early eighteenth-century Lorraine coinage. |

| Reverse description | The central device comprises three pairs of conjoined letters L — each pair formed by one regular L and one reversed L — arranged to form an interlaced triangular composition, with an alerion placed at each of the three angles. At the center of this device is a Cross of Jerusalem. The denomination and date are inscribed in the surrounding circular Latin legend. The composition is a characteristic monogram type used for Leopold I's billon coinage of Lorraine. |
